Abstract photography presents images that do not have an immediate association with the object world. Instead, they use shapes, colours, and forms to achieve their effects.

However, photographers can be inhibited in moving into abstract photography because they feel constrained by the ‘rules’ of photography that demand qualities like sharpness and realism. In this talk John Humphrey explores some routes to abstract and art photography. These include ‘found’ abstracts as well as the use of software to distort and manipulate.

The search for abstraction liberates the creative function of the brain. This is often described as the right side of the brain since much visual and creative perception is centred in the brain’s right hemisphere. Since there is no need for an attachment to reality, the logical left hemisphere brain functions do not interfere, and creativity is given free rein.

John specialises in art and macro photography. He is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and presents RPS workshops on Creative Art Photography, Macro Photography, and Advanced Photoshop. He has a professional background in the management of mental health and runs workshops that use photography as an aid to mental wellbeing and personal resilience.

His work has been in many exhibitions including the International Print and Projected Image Exhibitions of the RPS and the London Salon Annual Exhibitions. His book ‘Close-up and Macro Photography’ is published by the Crowood Press, and his book ‘Creative and Art Photography’ will be published later this year.

These Talk Photography webinars are also more open for your questions, and you will be able to ask anything you like to John.

The webinar is scheduled to run for 60 minutes.

In this webiar David gives you a fairly broad overview which will cover his back-story (how he got involved in Light Painting), and we will also look at a range of work that he's created over the years using the magic of long-exposure photography. David will also introduce you to some of the tools that he uses to make his work. David also gives you an image-based tutorial which illustrates how the process works from start to finish.

David is a respected professional photographer and artist who specialises in macro photography (the ‘Little People’ / TOYS) and long-exposure photography (the art of ‘light painting’). His work has received some very welcome attention over the years which has led to him becoming involved in some very exciting projects all over the world. Highlights of the past couple of years include having some of his photography stocked by John Lewis, Art Pistol Gallery and Made In Stirling, as well as now having some of his work sailing around the world on the amazing AIDA cruise ships.

In 2018 David took the plunge and became a full-time Photographer and Artist. As well as regularly exhibiting his work, the backbone of his business is centred on running Creative Photography Workshops which he teaches to fellow photographers, and in late 2018 he also started travelling the country and teaching his Workshops in schools across Scotland.

We always allow time for you to ask questions to David.

In this 2nd of a 3 part webinar series, Deborah will talk you through her shoots and how she works with her clients, team and models.

"In this webinar I will be providing step by step guide from the concept of a theme/ image to capturing the final image/set of images with all the steps in-between. I will share handy tips for finding inspiration and remaining creative during these challenging times, how to organise your ideas, where to find a creative team, lighting setups and much more." - Deborah Selwood

The information in this webinar can be applied to fine art, commercial, editorial and portrait photography.

Deborah Selwood is a UK based internationally published professional hair, beauty, fashion, dance photographer and retoucher. She fell in love with photography at an early age but for a number of years pursued a different career path with photography being merely a hobby in her spare time.  However, her love of photography grew so in 2002 she went to study several photography courses at her local college.  Since then she has taken the opportunity to study photography and retouching on an almost daily basis in order to hone and improve her craft through a mixture of online tuition, face to face tuition, 1-2-1 tuition.

Over the years she has won many awards for her photography including International Photographer of the Year, UK Photographer of the Year, Fashion Photographer of the Year and Fine Art Photographer of the Year.

Deborah is so passionate about learning it made sense to undertake a teaching qualification so she can teach other photographers effectively and with confidence.  Teaching and meeting new photographers is a true pleasure for her. She is a firm believer in lifelong learning and personal development and would encourage anyone to study their craft as much as possible.

These Talk Photography webinars are also more open for your questions, and you will be able to ask anything you like to Deborah.
